Idea pitch

"We must remember that it is culture, not war, that cements European identity”-Umberto Eco.
Our project aims to collect documentaries and create online map, which focuses on current issues in Europe due to documentaries we gather.According to the map we will make a route to hold events engaging local communities. We will organize a holiday that will unite people. On this holidays we will screen documentaries from current location and other places in Europe to raise awareness about existing issues

Where will your idea take place?

throughout Europe

Why does Europe need your idea?

We will cover the whole range of European and regional problems, which are reflected in selected documentaries: immigration, ecological issues, unemployment, problem of living in the big city, gender inequality, violation of human rights, etc. Moreover, it’s important for us to make discussions after screenings which will tackle the problem of human self-isolation and inactivity in communication and resolving local and common issues.

What is your impact?

Our aim is to create interactive online map with documentaries, which will reflect geographical context of problems. Other aim is to introduce existing problems to the locals through holding events. All this can be presented as documentary about our intercultural research, which can be screened in European cinemas. Our project will contribute to consolidating people and raising awareness about challenging issues. In this way it will initiate the dialogue among people, which may resolve problem.

How do you get there?

We will collect documentaries from our archives, film schools, distribution companies, film festivals and platforms. Then we will create an interactive online map of European documentary films. It will be designed for filmmakers who will be able to map their movies, for those who study current issues and for local change-makers and activists who want to emphasise local problems. We will promote this map through media and expand our partner network. We coordinate our route with our local partners. Our team starts visiting mapped places and organize events: screenings, discussions, workshops involving local community. We encourage local people to join our wandering team to share their experience in solving problems. As a result of our research, we will create a documentary.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Our major target group includes local communities, because we will work on promoting solidarity among people throughout Europe. Moreover, our project will bring new tools and inspiration for activists and change-makers. It will give filmmakers a possibility to map their documentaries and provide researchers with an outline of current situation in different regions of Europe.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We think that our idea is different from others, because we use cinema as mediator between people. We use art as a tool of research and collaboration, which engages wide range of people with different backgrounds. Cinema is a universal language. It does not have any social status and it does not need a visa. We also plan to use “Cinema-van Amphibia”(photo above), mobile art sculpture, which will attract people and make our project unique.
