Idea pitch

Revealing Europe: Portraits, Places and Emotions aims to address to citizens of RS and EU by showing the real face of Europe, enhancing fraternal feelings and raising awareness of belonging to a bigger group. There will be an open call for artists to send pictures of their artwork (portrait, place and ones inspired by emotions) via email with important data. Jury will select the best artworks which will be collected and presented at the exhibition. The best three artists will be awarded.

Where will your idea take place?

Belgrade, Serbia

Why does Europe need your idea?

Serbia is in a process of making necessary changes in order to become a member of EU, yet large number of citizens is against this idea due to reasons such as fear of losing their own national identity, negative emotions due to recent wars, etc. Proof are various polls, but also a recent protest against our country becoming a member of NATO. Hence, a common man in Serbia nowadays doesn’t have many possibilities to travel, so in a way Europe will come to him and bring nations together.

What is your impact?

Our overall aim is to remind people of RS and EU that they are all part of one big community. We wish to show what European identity is, not only as a political entity such as the EU, but also as the geographical concept and meeting point of cultural diversity, common history and values which coexist for centuries. Another objective for us is to inspire creativity and tolerance in society and to emphasize the need for gaining knowledge about other cultures and become more open towards them.

How do you get there?

October: making of social media campaign; sending invitations vie e-mail to NGOs and Associations of Artists across Europe; printing and distributing leaflets and promotional posters. November and December: Continuation of the promotional campaign and collecting artworks. Artists submit their artworks via e-mail, along with the important information of the creations. January: Closing of the Open call and the selection of artworks by jury consisting of well know art professionals. Selected participants are asked to submit their works in the original form. February: Preparation of the exhibition and continuation of collecting artworks – adaptation of the exhibition space, printing and designing promotional material for the exhibition, organizing staff etc. March: 3 weeks long exhibition.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Project Revealing Europe: Portraits, Places and Emotions relies on people with the ability to express their view of Europe through art. This includes various artists with professional and non-professional background, as well as every person affected by the artwork, regardless of age, sex, ethnic or social status - children, teenagers, students, arts supporters, arts professionals, local community members, funders, policy makers, foreigners etc.

What makes your idea stand apart?

The goal of our project is to show people and their culture in a different light than before. Not many know about smaller countries in Europe that are outside of European Union, and even less about their culture, landscapes, people and other. Furthermore, this exhibition won’t be just an art event but also a social one in which the winning artists can interact with the visitors and connect with them, while getting recognized for their work.
