We saw pictures of people on the move while on their way to Europe and we wanted to see it in a different light. Therefore a new catwalk was born: the BALKAN BOULEVARD, a project by CargoCult. We would like to create a new dress for Miss Europe (currently looking dirty: brown and full of dust). Bottom up: A real Fashionweek, a collection made by young migrants and young Europeans - red thread, blood circulation, reanimation. Understanding without words. Realised in a mobile workshop/container.
To stop the cultural Boykott: Migrants who have just ended their journey will store their experiences in our container. We will print their stories to the inside lining of the garments. Expressing yourself through fashion in the broader sense of a community of humans, of a united Europe that functions without borders, cause its diversity is its strength.The old Europe needs new clothes. Europe has a responsability as a post colonial structure. Let’s take the minorities to the stage /catwalk.
Europe is going to be dressed well. All the media heard about BALKAN BOULEVARD. Primary goal: Creating a functional workshop at the fringe of society. Meeting ,working and creating together. Bringing fringe groups to the CENTER of ATTENTION while showing its creative output -the new European outfit, an idealistic brand, made with the help of a productive Europe(network of European Production companies is shaping up)The container becomes a mobile instance of ethical fashion cowork.
The sign is the call out: Once the „golden“containers are set up we believe to find people.The need for a meaningful occupation in the camps is immense+we will find „the racist“ right next to these villages because they often belong to the fringe too.Therefore we see ourselves as curators, facilitators, teachers as well as schoolmates.The stories come from our participants, we will curate them all together and the participants will create the outfits by using our knowledge and getting all the power and encouragement from us. works quite well as we have already experienced past three years/production in cowork with EU-production companies (which are rare).We think about many partners- like ITC, UN, UdK, HTW/ BBRoad-Movie Fashionweeks Europe wide taking place in containers on trucks.
