Idea pitch

LOVEEUROPE is a unique European festival connecting five different European regions together in Dresden/DE. Its main idea is to present these regions through art, music, tourism and international cuisine, and to create interactive encounters between visitors and artists. This festival addresses people of all ages with different cultural and social background to promote the European ideal with a focus on cultural variety, tolerance and cosmopolitism very directly to the people.

Where will your idea take place?

Dresden/DE + partner regions

Why does Europe need your idea?

For many Citizens the European Union looks today rather like a technocratic entity than a fascinating project. The tensions inside of Europe (& outside of the EU) become more and more visible. Maybe the most challenging impact, Europe is currently not able to connect on an emotional level with its citizens to revive the European Ideal. Regarding Dresden, capital of Saxony/DE, enthusiasm for Europe, for cosmopolitanism & tolerance has been challenged by xenophobic demonstrations against refugees.

What is your impact?

To attract people it urgently needs its expression on an emotional level. Europe has a unique cultural diversity, and arts & culture are predestinated for it. A cultural event which touches the feelings of thousands of people can create a fascinating experience for the audience and promote the European ideal with a focus on cultural variety, tolerance and cosmopolitism. Such a happening in public space has the best preconditions to beam a strong impulse that reaches far beyond the event itself.

How do you get there?

With LOVEEUROPE we will run a unique European fest with new aspiration for Dresden, our partner regions and Europe as a whole. We will select five partner regions, bringing the abstract ideal of Europe to life and to create a fascinating experience for the audience:

1. The Spanish Basque country & Navarra (ES)
2. Lower Silesia (PL)
3. Catalonia (ES)
4. Region Ústí (CZ)
5. Brittany (FR)

All partners will organize one local event before and one after the fest in their local communities. And we invite a group of min. 5 people from every region to join LOVEEUROPE, to discuss Europe and to celebrate together with all partners and the audience.

a) Arts & Music (stage etc.)
b) Interactive encounters (panel discussion, open space, exhibition etc.)
c) Handcraft, tourism & International cuisine

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

We address an audience of different ages, origins and equally both genders, including also migration groups and refugees in Dresden. Our primary target group for audience is the local community. With having two neighboring regions selected we want to attract also many guests from Czech Republic and Poland to join the event. Artists, cultural activists, NGO partners from the selected region and local NGOs will benefit from their presentation by gaining network contacts for future cooperation.

What makes your idea stand apart?

LOVEEUROPE animates Europe by appealing to senses and feelings – something that Europe really lacks!

- mix of ‘culture in a broader sense’ with music, arts, food, mobility etc.
- bringing together: different groups of local/regional audience and guest from abroad, stakeholders (artists, cultural & civic activists, authorities)
- Dresden has a high symbolic meaning in Europe with light and dark: Cultural heritage with Europe wide influences, destruction in World War II, current ‘Pegida’ movement
