Idea pitch

We want to enable refugees in Berlin to be in touch with their musical culture. This includes playing, recording, performing, teaching and learning about music making. The aim is to have a meaningful cultural exchange with the refugees, to foster integration.

Where will your idea take place?

Berlin

Why does Europe need your idea?

Today we have roughly 60000 refugees in Berlin. In the future their integration is going to play a vital role in their well-being and their acceptance within the German society.

Integration is not a one way street: we want to enable the refugees of Berlin to live and develop their own creativity and culture.

The refugees had to leave their instruments, music and fellow musicians behind, have no network in Berlin, so they are hindered in making music, although they would have the ability.

What is your impact?

We want to enable refugees in Berlin to be in touch with their musical culture. This includes playing, recording, performing, teaching and learning about music making. The aim is to have a meaningful cultural exchange with the refugees, to foster integration.

How do you get there?

The way the initiative works is by running projects, that are in line with the initiative’s mission statement and themes. These projects can range from helping one individual to proactively creating an infrastructure for all refugees in Berlin. Projects can vary in focus, size and duration.

The guiding themes are: Enabling music making, Including learning and teaching, Fostering interaction, and spreading the word.

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

Refugees and Berliners alike.

What makes your idea stand apart?

The aim of this initiative is to provide infrastructural help rather than individual. For example, we strive to make instruments and education accessible to as many refugees as possible.

We’re confident that we can provide that through our network and partnering organisations and keep the initiative running after the funding ended.

We’re at home in modern, electronic music and classic instruments alike.

The initiative is open source and can be copied and scaled by virtually anyone.
