Together with international artists we want to investigate political conflict. We do this with the best means available to us: The comic. the project is divided in two parts, a live event and a free comic book.
With comic battles on stage we show, that pictures are a universal language across different cultures. In the book we explore 20 conflicts. Each of the opposing parties is represented by an artist. We want to encourage the readers to take a step back and change their point of view.
Germany and other European countries
The world seems on the edge of escalation. And in our heads many of us are already one step further. Everything is being hyped up as a clash of civilisations. Through pictures we speak a universal language. We drew stories on the walls of caves. Even until today, picture stories haven‘t lost any of their universal comprehensibility. Images can be weapons. But not like you think! We don’t want to fight. We want to draw comics!
The finished comic strips will be released as a compilation for the Comicsalon Erlangen 2016. In Erlangen the Comic Culture Clash will also be battled out on stage. Battles will playfully deal with each subject and show that drawing is an international, cross-cultural language and form of communication.
without finger-wagging, we confront the readers in an entertaining way with serious political issues.
We have compiled a list of current and past conflicts. From Poland vs the EU to the most recent one in Germany: Pegida vs The Press. There are many on our list to choose from for the comic book artists. Participants are divided into “Conflict Pairs” who will battle it out on the drawing board. It is important though that they deal/work with the thoughts and actions, the motivation and the fears of their party.
since the comic book will be given away for free our target audience is far beyond the normal comic reader. The audience is the "man/woman on the street". We want to do our part to show, that there are different points of view to every subject and how important it is to put oneself in someones place once in a while. After finishing the book we want to go further with an exhibition of the artwork including drawing battles and signinig sessions of the artists all over Europe.
We are doing this for a long time now. we have been traveling and working in different countries the last years. From that we gained a broad network of hundreds of artists around the world. We can give them a platform, to tell their story, their point of view.
