The town twinning has a long history in Europe. The project ‘Twin Towns Tram’ aims to renew this ties on a daily basis, making it visible, heard and spoken, by using the universal means of public transport in a educational and interactive format: ordinary daily rout becomes a timeline trip through the narrative of your native city diplomacy history, by getting to know it’s twin’s town every day life, partnership history, official sites, cultural life and urban activitities.
European twinning towns connective map (towns enumerated) In terms of the project launch phase, ‘Twin Towns Tram’ project would start from Minsk, Republic of Belarus, and it’s twin towns in Europe in a number of 4. The overall city number is 5, accounting Minsk. The starting point of the twin towns chain would be Minsk, acquainting it’s citizens with city life and history of Lyon, Łódź, Bonn and Chișinău. The project ‘Twin Towns Tram’ aims at launching an urban movement initiative, which could be supported by any other initiative group in Europe.
We’re challenging European citizen curiosity to reveal unseen twin partner ties in a new and captivating manner during the ordinary daily practices of using public transport. This partner chains serve for further contact making, cultural exchange and familiarization with a shared history. Meanwhile this shared cultural and historical capital is left behind the scene of our everyday lives, specially actual among young Europeans.
The notion of the shared history in it’s intricating milestones could be renewed by ordinary city daily practices of public transport in terms of educative and interactive linkage of history with a present day, embodying ‘twinning’ co-citizens in their surroundings and cultural heritage in invitive and interactive manner of exploration and interconnection. Enhancing the project effect by XXI century digital means, storing data.
Collaborating with local municipalities and public transport authorities to equip city vehicles/trams with timeline banners and means of visual material, aimed for the historical and cultural glimpse at the twinning town, it’s everyday city life, partnership history, official sites, street art, musical festivals and other variously diverse urban activities. More detailed information would be published on the interactive web source, co-filled by anyone with visual and audio materials. Co-creating the interactive site map, uploading city views, sounds, narratives told by it’s citizens.
The project is aimed at Europeans, citizens of twin towns, passengers of public transport of all age and genders, nationalities and cultures, undercovering cultural and historical heritage, using interactive educative and creative means of getting this knowledge.
Public transport could be considered as occasional ‘multicultural pot’ that unites people on a daily basis. We’re aiming to multiply this positive effect of cultural unity by using interactive and educative means, contributing towards creating new up-to-date formats of interactions among Europeans. Thus citizens would become a main actors of setting the dialogue among common Europe, meanwhile endlessly chaining all twin towns all over Europe and broader.
