Idea pitch

A collaborative project, a joint achievement as a symbol of 2,500 years of democracy and for the European Idea. Visible from the European Route E50 Paris-Prague a “Temple of Culture” is being erected on the theme of EUROPE. A forum for creative artists with changing exhibitions and events.

Where will your idea take place?

Etsdorf

Why does Europe need your idea?

The theme of EUROPE is complex and many-facetted and is continuously evolving. It is important to continually observe the progress of this idea. Usually only finances, bureaucracy and politics command center stage. What we are lacking is a venue where those who create culture – artists, musicians, architects, creative minds ... – can express themselves on the subject of EUROPE and display their works. We are in the process of creating this venue – doing so from the bottom up and well away from u

What is your impact?

The Glyptothek in Etsdorf is a collaborative project, initiated by ordinary citizens, the brainchild of the artist Wilhelm Koch as a symbol of 2,500 years of democracy and for the European Idea. We are dealing with the concept of a “Social Sculpture”, an exhibition hall, a “Temple of Culture” whose theme is EUROPE. The construction of this columned hall takes the form of a modern pre-cast concrete temple. In the Exhibition Hall the theme of EUROPE and the “European Idea” are to be presented.

How do you get there?

We try to create a “Social Sculpture”. When a great many people help together, a great deal can be achieved – from the bottom up. This encouraged me around the year 2000, at a time when there was an underlying pessimistic, negative mood in Germany, to begin another large-scale project on the basis of public spirit within the community. A “Temple” for a new age, conceived as a symbol of 2,500 years of democracy and for the European Idea.
A c r e a t i v e place for all those interested in Europe.

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

A c r e a t i v e place for all those interested in Europe.

What makes your idea stand apart?

We want to create a permanent home for creativity and for creative artists whose theme is EUROPE. In full view of the European Route E50 Paris-Prague a “Cultural Rest Area” is being created for Europe. The project has been evolving over the last twelve years – and continues to do so – from “the bottom up”.
