Idea pitch

Following an animated short films competition organized in 2015 by the association EUROPEANS WITHOUT BORDERS to encourage young students of animation schools to represent situations relating to European citizenship, a short animation movie entitled "Europeman help" is currently in production phase. It will be available in French and broadcasted among others on Euronews, Café Babel, EurActiv and in French cinemas. Let’s adapt it into 12 other European languages to reach out more citizens!

Why does Europe need your idea?

European fundamental values are increasingly being threatened by overwhelming populism throughout Europe. The benefits of European citizenship remain unknown to most citizens. Who knows that we all have automatically a European citizenship? How many citizens know exactly what this implies?

In this context, EUROPEANS WITHOUT BORDERS decided to focus on European citizenship and produce innovative and impactful short animation movies to address current challenges and reach out a wide audience.

What is your impact?

Our first animation movie is based on an original scenario revolving around the fictional character of EuropeMan, a European superhero who solves students' problems, by explaining them what Europe do for them. Thanks to high-quality standards of production and a funny storyline, we aim to feed the online conversation on Europe's fundamental values and rights. Interpretation in other languages than French would enable us to expand our messages to other audiences, especially in Eastern Europe.

How do you get there?

After having reached out major TV channels and cinemas, we have already secured partnerships for an upcoming wide promotion on social media, on TV channels and in French cinemas. If we make the animated short film "EuropeMan Help!" available in 12 European languages, we will be able to reach out a wider audience throughout Europe, especially those for which initiatives are seldom addressed: citizens of Eastern Europe.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

The animated short film aims at having a significant impact on a target audience of 18 to 35 year-olds Europeans and allow them to contribute to an online interactive discussion on the issues of European democracy and citizenship. Thanks to secured partnerships with media and cultural associations, we also plan to make full use of the animated short film "EuropeMan Help!" during national election campaigns in each country of the European Union.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Europe currently lacks of visual representations that can be funny, entertaining and pedagogic while being at the same time tailor-made to modern communication channels and platforms. This is where our project makes the difference! We are not an EU institution bound to institutional (and sometimes boring) communication messages. With some creativity and high-quality standards, we aim to feed the conversations and create engagement among the wide audience of Europeans throughout the continent.

€ 36000,-

Funding requested from Advocate Europe

€ 50000,-

Total budget

Major expenses

We calculated that the interpretation of "EuropeMan Help !" in other European languages will cost approx. 3000 per language. With the total amount requested, we would be able to make the interpretation of the short animation movie for 12 languages! EUROPEANS WITHOUT BORDERS is producing this short animation movie purely with the public interest in mind and for non-profit purposes. There will be no commercial exploitation of the short movie produced.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?
