Proposal

Idea pitch

Already in 2013 we recognized that there is lack of information in Russian about sustainable development. We started the project aiming to educate Russian-speaking people around the world about sustainability, its issues and sustainable development goals 2030. We were providing webinars in our free time and it brought around 500 people from more than 60 countries. We believe that we can attract more people providing online courses and organizing webinars and other educational projects.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Sustainability is one of the main discussed topics at the high-level meetings. Unfortunately, Russian-speaking people in the CIS and other countries are not really aware about it as there is a lot of misleading and lack of proper information. This lack also leads to limited integration to global processes and believe in misleading ideas. We would like to educate Russian-speaking audience in non-formal way using online courses and webinars, and prospectively organize live events.

What is your impact?

We are working on educating about sustainability issues for Russian-speaking audience and want to reach as many people as possible. During next year we are planning to launch at least 3 courses, and provide monthly webinars. We would like to publish news at least weekly to attract more participants through social networks. We consider participation in conferences and festivals to spread the word about our project. We plan to involve volunteers for different level of education.

How do you get there?

We work in several directions. First, we provide our service through webpage where people can access free online courses (through openshkola.teachable.com). We are planning to relaunch our free webinars sessions where we will invite different specialists once a month. Library should be integrated to our page too.
Secondly, we are partnering with Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN - www.sdsnedu.org), which connected directly to the UN and also working on spreading the word on sustainability. We are involving student-volunteers to translate their online courses to Russian, first course with Russian subtitles will be launched in April, 2016.
Finally, we would like to start organizing live events for international participants to provide more understanding on sustainability issues

What is your story?

-

Who are you doing it for?

We are targeting youth and young professionals in different parts of the world who speak Russian and can apply their knowledge in their daily life. With our projects they can learn about global issues and how daily choice can influence the environment and society of the planet. We had some young educators among our students who applied this knowledge for their our teaching practice. We are planning to develop at least one course for educators about how to teach sustainability to children.

What makes your idea stand apart?

This is unique project for Russian-speaking realm. We provide information which everybody should know in simple terms, and which can reach Russian speaking people anywhere in Europe, as additionally to former soviet Russian speaking countries, there are more than 5 million native Russian speakers in European Union. Our project provides a common base for proper understanding and connection in achievement of sustainable development agenda and future prosperity.
