Idea pitch

MIX is a creative artistic-scientific collaboration between young chemists and interactive theatre artists from Armenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic. Young professionals will produce a 30-minute interactive scientific show for schoolchildren in three languages using chemical elements as symbols of European identities. The joint group will tour in all three countries celebrating the magic of ‘chemical’ re-actions.

Where will your idea take place?

Several cities in Armenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic

Why does Europe need your idea?

Europe has always been diverse, and it is becoming more so. Protecting and celebrating the diversity of different cultures is a key to ensuring a prosperous future. To welcome a society of multiplicity and pluralism, diversity should be a fundamental value of early childhood education. It is important that all the layers of the society involve in the formation process of a more inclusive and open Europe.

What is your impact?

In view of today’s reality of increasing diversity and migration in Europe, the proposed project will open up to its young beneficiaries a wider world of cultures and creativity – a world where challenges turn into new opportunities. The adults of tomorrow will celebrate diversity in its many dimensions through ‘chemical’ games, as well as recognize the dangers of stereotypes, discrimination and intolerance.

How do you get there?

We believe that learning is inevitable “fun.” Thus, the concept of an interactive scientific show, including live acting and chemistry demonstrations, has been chosen as a tool for edutainment. Three interactive theatre artist from Armenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic will engage in a creative collaboration with two young chemists and other theatre professionals - a scriptwriter and theatre director from Armenia, to produce a 30-minute scientific show in Armenian, Croatian and Czech. Five presentations of the show will be organized in each country for over 300 schoolchildren with the lead actor from the respective country. Children will be encouraged to interact with the performers and the ‘chemical’ elements.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

It is vital to promote a culture of diversity among children, as attitudes and behavior are shaped at an early stage and can be decisive in determining their future involvement in public affairs. Children are the driving force and the new generation of change makers for a more inclusive Europe. They will bring energy and new ideas for a better future for everyone. Children (7-11) are at the core of our project.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Very few initiatives across Europe have dealt with the subject science-in-theatre and virtually none with chemistry-in-theatre. By contrast with simple interventions to present visiting shows abroad, which can mostly only give a one-way impulse in the host country, MIX will provide young professionals from completely different fields to meet and collaborate for the first time joining their exceptional skills.
