Europe's first transnational YouTubers-News-Network for young people
Germany, UK, PL, ES, UA
Traditional media does not reach viewers in other European countries. This is not just a limitation of the potential number of viewers, but a limitation for pan-European communication and debate. Public debate about political developments such as the Euro Crisis, the refugee situation and terrorism is an essential part of a functioning democracy. And a pan-European public debate is largely missing because of a lack of pan-european media.
‚European Newsroom’ will provide a network for pan-European debate based on young, relevant and cool News content from YouTubers across Europe. Young people will be able to see and hear directly unfiltered News from young people in other European countries and draw their conclusions.
We will start by identifying 10 young YouTubers who have already built relevant channels (News, Politics, Science, History, Economis) and fan communities in their home markets and who produce semi-professional content. During that phase we will make sure that there is a good gender balance which should be maintained as the platform develops. This group will be invited to the VIDEODAYS 2016 in Cologne. There they receive coaching on how to produce news, editorial and content support. They will get the opportunity to produce european content together with YouTubers from different countries in different languages. This content should be published in their home channels by using a hashtag like #europeannewsroom. They agree to share the videos of the other YouTubers in their channels as well.
Target group of the project are young people in DE, UK, PL, ES and UA between 14 and 21 years. The "European Newsroom" network will reach young people that are barely using traditional media channels and that are not interested especially in "european issues".
There is still no cross-country YouTubers News-Network on European issues for young people. The network will be created by YouTubers that are still running relevant channels in their home market. We use the magic and the resources of Europe's largest video festival to create content that helps to share a young idea of Europe.
