Pocket Europe is meant to break borders in Europe through a participatory multilingual cultural mobile game. Imagine we could know more about European politics and culture through fast fun and interactive activities like quizzes&socializing. The game will enable users to easily understand EU politics, to explore differences & similarities between Europeans, to showcase their culture and European lifestyle and to support youth designing the European map of their future – a Europe of shared values
The EU is made of its citizens and for its citizens. We are “united in diversity”, but lacking knowledge or experiences with European identity. The current EU crises show that there is a lot of intolerance and misperception between its citizens falling back on knee-jerk stereotypes mainly due to ignorance of simple facts and our shared European heritage. We address youth in particular, because it is them retaining more and more from the democratic decision-making processes locally to EU wise.
We aim to increase European transnational cultural understanding and mutual respect among youth. Through up-to-date technology we aim at building a powerful interactive platform where users can connect through a series of games. The goal is to enrich our users` appetite for European culture, history and politics; to challenge existing prejudices across Europe. Through dedicated events we will enhance youth connecting and live experiencing the power of sharing and learning one from each other.
1 Prototype, 2 months, focus on detailed conceptualization of the game app. We will collect ideas and feedback from game experts and users.
2 Market test, 1 month, We will start building prototypes and give it to focus groups for feedback. This Lean Approach will help us to test the various aspects of the app and reduce our costs.
3 Tech Dev (beta), 4 months, we will focus on developing the app with insights from our testing. We will put together our social, technological and business know-how to build the working beta version.
4 Official launch in Essen, with the insights from the beta version we will finish the app and we will officially launch it.
5 Dissemination phase across Europe, 4 months, where we promote the app via different channels and through our partners.
Young European citizens between 15-35 years old represent the target group. They are native to the idea of using mobile apps for social interaction, entertainment and sharing. They can raise more awareness for Europe and influence a change in the near future, through their open-mind and easiness to break stereotypes. Specific target group: Erasmus students and alumni. They have first-hand experience of multicultural life. Other stakeholders: NGOs which work for a cause promoting European values.
Combining mobile game and social network to connect European youth is innovative by following current technological and social trends and putting them together for a greater European idea. The users will freely interact and play together, without serving them information that we find important, but giving them the stage to share what is important for them. Through our skilled and experienced staff, we can create a unique game by blending tech and social innovations with tools for civic education
