Idea pitch

Freedom Games is aninterdisciplinary conference that serves as a common ground for intellectuals and artists to share experiences, exchange ideasand develop solutions to current problems in diverse areas - from politics and economy to society and culture -concerning Europe as a whole and Poland in particular. Our intention is also to create a place of meetings and debates for the residents of Lodz, strengthening the potential of the city as a centre of cultural and intellectual movement.

Where will your idea take place?

Łódź, Poland

Why does Europe need your idea?

Freedom Games aim to define challenges that Poland, Europe and the world in general are facing. This year we want to take up the topic of the 'Clash of cultures’ as an answer to many controversies surrounding the refugee crisis, terrorist attacks in Europe and the activity of ISIS, as well as changing dynamics between and within the EU, the US and Russia. Apart from that, we would like to focus on internal division of Poland, which has been vividly stressed since last parliament elections.

What is your impact?

Our event is supposed to connect people, create common vision and implement it into our speakers and guests, especially students and activists. With the theme 'Clash of cultures', we aim to confront specialists with diverse viewpoints and experiences, in order to reflect main differences that appear in public debate. As an outcome, we hope to use the insight of experts as both a diagnosis and a remedy for current challenges, which will be published in the quarterly issue of Liberté! Magazine.

How do you get there?

Our first step is gaining recognition among prominent supporters - media platforms, NGOs as well as Polish Ministry of Culture and the Lodz City Hall. Then we plan to develop further partnership with co-organizer of last year's edition, EC1 Łódź - The City Of Culture, which provides an attractive venue for our event. Further actions include composing the program with the main theme being the 'Clash of cultures'; as an international and interdisciplinary event, we want to cover various ways of approach to this problem. Then we want to invite experts, activists, students and everyone interested in Freedom Games' main topic as our speakers and guests. The last step is sheer organization - providing hotels and catering as well as managing promotion both outdoor and online.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

Freedom Games is targeted towards open-minded people of all ages and professions. Our main audience consists of NGO activists, artists from various disciplines and genres, experts on topics covered during the Freedom Games, leaders of opinion and academicians. We also hope to create boards of discussions and meetings dedicated for students from different academic centres in Poland, especially from courses such as political sciences, foreign affairs, economy and cultural studies.

What makes your idea stand apart?

Freedom Games serve as a meeting place for those who share common love for freedom and development. Our aim is to create a ground for networking and further cooperation by bringing our speakers together during associated events, such as informal discussions, meetings, and parties in the festival’s club in the centre of Lodz. Freedom Games are also supposed to enrich the cultural offer of the city thanks to concerts, art displays and promotion of recent works in literature, cinema and theatre.

€ 40000,-

Funding requested from Advocate Europe

€ 125000,-

Total budget

Major expenses

Major expenses will include transport and accommodation of foreign guests, which we estimate at around 35000 euro. The costs of renting a venue will also be significant, most probably reaching 4000 euro . Additionally, rebranding of our event is highly required, which - along with outdoor and online promotion - will require further expenses, estimately around 2000 euro .

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

Despite this year's edition of the Freedom Games being already the third one, we still struggle with recognition among ordinary recipients, especially the citizents of city of Łódź. We would greatly appreciate any suggestions on how we can creatively advertise and promote our event as a chance to enrich the image of the city. We are also open to any suggestions on topics for discussions, debates or workshops developing the theme 'Clash of cultures'.
