"Neue Heimat" is an urban education programme where refugee children come together to discover their new living environment and immerse in the local culture while connecting with local kids and community, helping them to establish cultural and emotional bridges and encouraging their personal development and harmonic inclusion in this new and unknown world.
More than a quarter of the population of refugees arrived in Europe in the last years corresponds to boys and girls coming from countries with strong war conflicts. Their integration into the social life is still uncertain as the hosting nations have been concerned mainly covering the basic needs. The lack of an integral inclusion system in which refugees can join the social life, exposes them to social segregation, risking their displeasures and the harmony for the whole cohabitat.
Provide an extracurricular programme of urban education for refugee children in order to improve their integration through inclusion of a broad spectrum of cultural and social aspects of urban living and at the same time generate a model which can be adapted to the conditions of the other european cities.
Working in 3 periods of 4 month with 6 groups of children from different Boarding/ asylum houses and local schools that work with the program of “Willkommensklasse”. For them there will be an offer of extracurricular activities, where the children will deepen their understanding of the main features of the local community and culture through activities such as creative workshops, social games, interactive presentations, citizens meetings, city tours, etc. The programme will be implemented in two centers: The GIERSO Boardinghouse in Weißensee and the Willkommensklasse of the Primo-Levi-Gymnasium in the same district. This institutions have the facilities necessary for the correct development of the project. The classes will be hold by members of the team (two per group) two times a week.
For all those children and young people, who product of different armed conflicts or serious economic and humanitarian crises, had to leave their countries of origin and emigrate to distant lands in search of a new place where to develop themselves in freedom. Specifically the group of children of the teachers José Joaquin Ovalle and Jennifer Herbst from the GIERSO BoardinghausBerlin and Primo-Levi-Gymnasium.
We propose the development of an alternative education programme to integrate refugee children in which the focus of the process will lie on the cultural integration into their host societies. This programme will involve diverse educational activities searching to built cultural and social bridges between their original culture and their culture of destination. Classes and activities will be executed in a playful language, attractive and accessible to the cognitive level of the children.

Personnel costs (around 900 hours. of classes and activities): 32000 EUR / Excursions (transportations, tickets, organization, etc): 6000 EUR / Visual material (special graphic & videos graphic material for classes): 4000 EUR / Work materials (colors, paper, wood, etc): 2000 EUR / Office expenses: 1000 EUR
