Idea pitch

ENVIENTA is a next generation sharing economy model, a DIY maker movement and community-based solution package for the 21st century, which provides share of know-how, blueprints, products and resources for the members. It's a P2P open source platform cooperative, a sustainable, cost-effective, decentralized, laterally scaled socioeconomic framework. ENVIENTA is a community controlled initiative with full transparency. As part of our purpose we're operating as a registered non-profit association.

Where will your idea take place?

Maspalomas, San Bartolome De Tirajana, Spain

Why does Europe need your idea?

A bigger impact can be achieved by connecting the dots. It’s especially true if it meets basic human necessities. In modern times to get food & water, energy, household objects, etc., in a reliable form subject to a lot of conditions. So we figured out a new lifestyle, focusing on households. Why open source? If anyone can participate in development, communities can easily grow, technological breakthroughs appear way faster into our daily life, instead of patent-protected R&D environments.

What is your impact?

Gandhi envisioned an ideal economy 70 years ago based on self-sustainable villages producing tools and foods. The real revolution comes when things we produce and the villages connect to the communication, energy and logistics Internet, which makes every village a mini-IoT infrastructure that connect communities across regions. And when that happens, the economic paradigm changes. That’s the long term goal of the ENVIENTA project.

How do you get there?

Step 1. We create an open source project organizer application for innovative experts to bring commons-based peer-production into reality by building and managing ENVIENTA project centers around the world.

Step 2. Cooperation between non-profits, governments and local business in an emerging hybrid economy:

- We provide turnkey solutions for governments to raise the population's standard of living
- We’re collaborating with companies to adapt their business model to the changes
- We’re involving educational institutions into open source research and development

In this talk from the 2015 Network Society World Congress, Gabor Kiss (ENVIENTA Chairman of the board) talks about the ENVIENTA & Qetema projects as a holistic approach to open source ecology.

What is your story?

Who are you doing it for?

• Individuals, families - self sufficiency courses
• Small and medium sized communities in rural and urban areas - commons management program, self sufficiency courses
• Educational institutions - open source R&D programmes, graduate studies programs, internship programs, summits, hackathons
• Local governments - sustainable socio-economic developments

What makes your idea stand apart?

Our project centers' vision to create commons-based peerproduction, distinguish ENVIENTA from regular companies. It requires less finance and more social capital and the principles of commons management. This kind of cooperation with an open source approach together could boost local productivity on a sustainable way, which can be a competitive advantage in any given area.
