Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

A mobile workshop with three trainers (biologist fighting racism, Nakeramos expert in challenging hate speech, graphic designer armed with a laptop and a printer) where attendees collaborate in a democratic art manifesto made by turning ideas into graphic posters. The goal is to empower youth and communities to overcome stereotypes and prejudices against cultural minorities (a by-product of populist/nationalist discourse). The result will be a collection of printed posters ready to disseminate.

Where will your idea take place?

From Barcelona to a net of schools linked to Institut Valldemossa and NGOs connected with Nakeramos

Why does Europe need your idea?

In our countries where pluralism, non-discrimination and tolerance are supposed to prevail, we are witnesses of a disillusionment with Europe, particularly in Catalonia. Claiming the Europe we need through an art campaign will fight disappointment and help recover sheer democracy.

What is your impact?

A democratic manifesto "Our Europe" by means of a collection of posters will be published to show that social inclusion is not about grouping all the differences into a selective and single cultural model, but rather making diversity visible in an intercultural inclusive model.

How do you get there?

1. The three partners (biologist, graphic designer and NGOs), have designed a mobile workshop to turn claims for democratic Europe into artistic digital posters.
2. Implementation of the workshops through Barcelona net of public sector formal education.
3. Implemention of the worshops through Barcelona net of NGOs of non-formal education and other social entities.
4. Dissemination and display of posters via Barcelona municipal entities.

What is your story?

We believe a better Europe will leave behind populism and exclusive nationalism. We love Catalonia and our city Barcelona but we can only conceive both as being part of Europe. We wish to contribute in raising awareness for a more cohesive Europe.

Who are you doing it for?

Youth in particular, our children and grandchildren who deserve to live in a Europe free from racism, segregation, and any type of discrimination: "Our Europe" a place for everyone.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We have seen that there are similar ideas proposals (Take back Nationalism, for instance) and maybe other proposals could join efforts and stablish collaboration in common outcomes. We will warmly welcome this initiative!
