Transparency international Slovenia
Positive and corruption-free local environments in towns in Slovenia, Slovakia or Poland through art, activism, video and contemporary open source web tools, where activist art is driven by knowledge gained in respective communities - with a grass root approach towards integrity!
Slovenia, Poland, Slovak republic
Our research from all 3 countries showed low levels of integrity of local political sphere, illegalities, abuse of public office etc. This shows that this is not a local problem, but a widespread and majority issue in Europe. Some facts: 19 corrupt mayors in Slovenia were elected, voters turnout on local level was low (45,22%), lobby legislation avoided, trust in political actors is low.
We see active citizens that improve their local environments with everyday activities. That is why our project is applicable throughout Europe as it can easily adapt to local environment. Any organization can observe local communities and abstract knowledge that can be used to tackle corruption or other issues with the creativity of active citizens in local environments using a grass root approach.
A successful outcome will be a shaped network of initiatives on local level in selected municipalities. At the same time citizens will be aware of their power to influence and co-shape local developments. The local administration will be aware on the need for participatory democracy processes and transparent decision making processes.
A year from now the initiatives against corruption and for integrity and transparency on the local level will be connected and thus stronger in their claims for ethical standards of local administration. Local administration will act more in line with ethical standards as they will know the society they are responsible for is watching them.
