Schwarzkopf-Stiftung Junges Europa // European Youth Parliament (EYP)
Although populism is a popular topic nowadays and seems to be on everyone’s lips, we think that there are very few young voices joining the debate. We aim to encourage a well-grounded and sustainable debate on one of the most pressing European issues amongst young people.
Populism is an important European issue that concerns young people from all over Europe. Unfortunately, young people are not adequately involved in this vital debate, even though they are key actors in politics. Current debates about the role of populism tend to be limited in their scope, one-sided and unsubstantiated, involving very few people. Our idea is to break open this debate and trigger the interests of young people, involving many of them in an ongoing and interactive discussion format.
We want to:
* encourage young people to look at populism from different perspectives and exchange their own ideas about the topic,
* strengthen the dialogue between young people and European decision-makers,
* give concrete policy recommendations to political decision-makers.
*encourage an ongoing and sustainable dialogue about populism amongst young people
*The project is made up of a preparation phase, two meetings in Berlin and two follow up events.
*Before, during and between the three-day meetings of the working group of young people, we aim to include a wider audience to discuss the topic using existing online tools such as Reddit, Google Hangouts, Drive and Brabbel.
*The outcomes will be:
1 A policy paper, which will be presented and discussed at follow up events with German politicians in Berlin and MEPs as well as representatives of the European Commission in Brussels.
2 A video made by the participants supported by a video editor, designed to attract a bigger, younger audience. The EYP has experienced volunteers and well-established channels to ensure a professional video and a wide distribution.
