Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

“Feminist Voices in Europe” is a monthly podcast produced by a group of European feminists, part of the network “WIDE+ Feminists transforming Economic Development”. It will be a new forum for feminist debates, collective knowledge-building and mobilization across and beyond Europe.
Diverse feminists and activists will debate key topics for European and international feminism, share experiences of women’s mobilization, and create knowledge about current and historic events and personalities.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Women’s rights/gender equality are a constitutive part of democracy. Europe and the EU pride itself to be committed to the idea of democracy and equality – but gender inequality and gender-based discrimination continue. Reinvigorated feminist activism through open debate is crucial for democracy.

What is your impact?

A reinvigorated feminist discourse and network of engaged feminists will be a vocal part of European civil society. European feminisms (beyond the EU) will engage with each other, and with global feminist discourses and networks, thereby strengthening democracy in real-life.

How do you get there?

For one year, we will produce a monthly podcast. Each issue will contain 1. a newsflash about burning women’s rights issues, 2. a background report/debate about one important topic for European feminism, 3. a brief portrait of one important woman in the (recent) European and global history (“our heroines”), 4. tips and infos, e.g. on new books, websites, alliances, women’s mobilization.
The podcast will come with a communication campaign to publicize it and to foster debate among the listeners.

What is your story?

We are part of an existing network and identify with the goal to construct a feminist European political voice on European and global issues. Our work is enshrined in a feminist vision - we are committed to the enforcement of women’s rights, as part of a larger struggle for social justice.

Who are you doing it for?

We hope women’s rights activists and feminists from all walks of life will be our listeners, as well as anyone else interested in gender equality as part of European democracy. Interested men are welcome. We will reach out especially to young women and women living outside capital cities.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We are interested in any contribution and suggestion, but we welcome in particular - Technical advice/ sharing of experiences on the production of podcasts - Suggestions of topics to be featured, and personalities to be portrayed as “our heroines”
