Throughout Europe, citizens are taking action to fight for more democratic societies. It’s time to connect with each other and rally behind a shared vision. We want to create a platform that showcases citizen initiatives fighting for similar causes in different countries. We want to show commonalities between these local initiatives, connect them, share their stories and solutions and most crucially: illustrate the European character of our challenges, and the need for a European response.
Athens, Greece; Dortmund, Germany and Barcelona, Spain.
By documenting citizen struggles across Europe through short videos, we want to remind people that there are problems common to all European citizens. The videos aim to show that these local problems are embedded in a wider European struggle, and to emphasise the need for a pan-European democracy.
A strong and resilient pan-European network of citizens will be created. A narrative of possibility emerges around a more democratic Europe. Citizens are inspired and feel empowered to replicate actions that matter, in their local contexts.
1) Draft a framework for video submission;
2) Local activists to submit introductory videos of their struggles within three predefined themes: refugees, environment and austerity
3) Review submissions and select struggles to be documented
4) Send production team to the nine selected activist struggles (3 per theme)
5) Edit material received
6) Film festival in Brussels to show short-films presenting connections between struggles and illustrating need for pan-European response
We are part of the first pan-European movement offering alternatives at European level. We believe that Europe needs to democratise or it will disintegrate. To solve connected challenges, we need pan-European solutions. These can only emerge if Europeans are aware of the struggles that they share.
We want to target Europeans who are unsatisfied with the status quo and are looking for inspiration and alternatives on how to contribute to change Europe. We wish to connect and empower the activists and members of our movement, and their partners, to form a counter-force to rising nationalism.
We would be happy for any feedback on how to improve our idea and suggestions for inspiring local stories and partners.
