The aim of the project is to set up local "bridge builders" groups in all EU Member States. The four partner organisations thus act as regional coordinators for 7 local bridge building teams each.

Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

In times of populism and political disillusionment, it is high time for citizens to become active and take up responsibility on the issues we feel passionate for. For democracy to flourish, we cannot solely rely on government action in order to bring about change. While the sheer amount of challenges seems endless, all of us have a set of issues we feel strongly for. Bridge Builders thus aim to engage people all over Europe in personal challenges while uniting them in advocacy communities.

Where will your idea take place?

The project will take place in a variety of cities and towns in all EU Member States.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Bridge Builders foster the personal sense of responsibility of each citizen while uniting participants around particular policy issues. Policy communities will thrive as citizens can feel they can make a difference on the local level while being able to spark the interest of peers all over Europe.

What is your impact?

Within one year, around 300 bridge builders will unite at least 1000 citizens in all EU Member States in mutual challenges addressing pressing social issues. Challengers with the most promising ideas will be invited to a transnational workshop building partnerships to implement identified solutions.

How do you get there?

Local bridge building teams consisting of 10-15 persons each will be set up in all EU countries. Through locally developed games, these teams will unite passersby on public places in mutual challenges addressing social and environmental issues. People who would not necessarily meet each other thus receive the opportunity to build partnerships around issues they feel strongly for. When completing their challenge, they meet within transnational policy communities to advocate and facilitate change.

What is your story?

With a view to the multiple challenges our societies need to face nowadays, citizens cannot only rely on government action and need to become active themselves. While as individuals we might feel powerless, we can team up around personal challenges and make a difference in the areas we care for.

Who are you doing it for?

We aim to build partnerships between citizens from various socio-economic backgrounds and ages transnationally, with the facilitation of highly committed bridge builders in all EU Member States. Through new media, all participants will contribute to the strengthening of the European Public Sphere.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

First, if you would feel like coordinating a local bridge builders team, please get in touch! In case you know of organisations or initiatives who could join us, please also let us know! And if you have interesting ideas for the challenges people will pick up, please suggest them via our website!
