HRYO operates in Palermo since 2009 in the promotion of human and citizen rights and engages in cultural work and social entrepreneurship, especially of women and migrants.
Open Village is a festival organised by Edgeryders community since 2012, a physical gathering of community members and newcomers. Our aim is to bridge the online and offline realms in a unique gathering that fosters global collaborations and alternative communities. OpenVillage is also a network of homes across the globe, prototyping sustainable, social, open-tech enterprises. Both provide experimental platforms for shared, participatory, inclusive democracy, based on openness and transparency.
Outskirts of Palermo, Sicily, on a farmland recovered from mafia for social purposes.
Edgeryders expands due to dissatisfaction with current manifestations of democracy, governance and proposed solutions and structures, challenges status quo and offers innovative solutions and means of interactions, decision-making, sharing and collaboration, and informs and shapes our work offline.
Three sustainable, up and running micro-enterprises addressing disadvantaged Palermitans and migrants, part of the network of homes we’re building in globally, based on participation and inclusion.A successful global gathering in Palermo that initiates collaborations.Online and offline participation
Edgeryders is founded on principles of inclusion, participation, and transparency, as a model of research, work, design, experimentation, and action. We use online and offline community, collective intelligence, online ethnography and research to bring together very different perspectives and use them to build our prototypes.A mix of offline meetings with communities in Palermo, international festival, and online discussion and research will allow for a scrutinized, prototyping flow and execution
We’re investing in projects rooted and cultivated in physical spaces, maintaining online platform where learning is shared, sparks collaborations and innovations. OV Palermo tackles fragile communities in difficult environment, where we can have a lasting impact and support a disempowered community
The project is meant for migrants and disenfranchised groups in Palermo in need of a viable source of income and a fair access to the market. And for Edgeryders working on projects based on commons and open licenses in science, technology, arts, communities, social sciences, design, economy, etc
How do we embed democracy in the social enterprises? What are the different ways in which we ensure participative spirit?
