International Center for Intercultural Research, Learning and Dialogue
Imagine a place where people of different nations meet and work together, united despite differences. A place where creative energies of individuals are merged into intercultural and interreligious projects that go beyond geographical and mental borders. This is MUSEION - the space of creation.
Europe can benefit greatly from its cultural diversity, being a place where people can feel accepted regardless their national, ethnic or religious background. Our project explores how art can change the perception of differences between cultures and people, encouraging Europeans to think of their diversity as an inspiration instead of a source of conflicts. We find it crucial to begin our initiative in Caucasus, the region where peaceful coexistence and effective cooperation is extremely needed. However, Armenia shall only be a starting point, as together with our partners from different countries we are planning to spread the idea of MUSEON all over Europe, creating a set of co-working spaces open to people wanting to implement their intercultural artistic initiatives and projects.
We want to build a space where people can realize their artistic potential and work together towards a common goal - raising the awareness and understanding of other traditions and cultures. Our idea is to give people freedom of creation and not to restrain them with specific topics or strict rules being imposed on them in advance. Therefore, the desired outcomes of the project would not be the concrete artistic products as such, but the change of attitudes that would be acquired during this process of creation. A year from now we would like to see MUSEION to be a place that serves the local community and beyond, a space where art and culture brings people together, giving them a possibility not only to cooperate on concrete projects but also to learn about each other's traditions.
Our one year project will start from renovating part of the building and adjusting it for a co-working space. It will involve participation of all the people implementing their projects here later on. They will take part in designing the place, bringing cultural artifacts serving as inspiration for their future initiatives. After we will start developing and the intercultural art projects. At the same time we will invite guest speakers delivering presentations on various aspects of culture. Their input will be a base for creating educational curricula for commercial intercultural trainings. The income will contribute to the work of the MUSEION and to the sustainable development of Banavan. We will also establish a cultural social enterprise providing long lasting impact for the community.
