Bringing Europeans Together Association e.V.
Model European Union Online is an online simulation of debates held in the EU, with the aim of fostering greater understanding for citizens about the EU. We teach citizens how the institutions function, their legislative processes and want to raise a greater awareness about the EU’s importance.
Today, the importance of increasing understanding of the role of the European Union is more important than ever! As an international body that is increasing in size and importance every decade since its inception, it is critical that European citizens are as strongly connected as possible to the EU. Furthermore, with an average voting percentage of 43% in the previous European election, more needs to be done to raise interest in the importance of the EU. In our simulation, we wish to teach participants the way in which legislation is created and passed within the EU, what sort of ideas are being debated, and how the bicameral system works. Through this, citizens will better understand the European Union and can be inspired to become active European citizens.
Bringing Europeans Together Association’s main objective is to foster a European identity and consciousness, as well as strengthening European civil society by further developing democratic processes on the national and international levels. We do this through simulations of European Union politics in Model EU conferences. Following the creation of Model EU simulations all across Europe, the creation of Model European Union Online will enhance our reach whilst reducing the obstacles of borders and costs. We want to set up an immersive platform that will be based upon already successful simulated conferences; these will allow even more participants to take part. We aim to empower citizens and foster greater understanding of the role the EU plays.
• Continue the development of software needed to realise the project, system of continual improvement to ameliorate details such as aesthetics, smooth running etc.
• Testing the product to make sure that it is of high quality, able to support a growing number of users and will run smoothly to simulate online debates.
• Pre-Conference work: registration opens for the online conference, creation of content to be distributed to participants, public relations team to spread the word about open applications.
• During conference: chaired debate by volunteers, simulating both the European Parliament as well as the Council of the European Union amending proposed legislation. Participants will act as MEP’s or Council Ministers, each representing different countries and different parties.
