Understand the work of the EU through a fun and innovative game. This online role-playing game will enable citizens to live the life of one of their EU representatives, create and patron EU laws, gain the support of their electorate and learn about the issues of the other countries.
It’s new, it’s fun and it’s catchy. Our idea of a role-playing game on the work of EU parliamentarians is probably one of the most effective ways to make citizens aware of what their representatives are doing on their behalf in Brussels and Strasbourg. The method is practical, but at the same time fun and interactive. We believe that it is important to inform citizens about how the EU works and our idea represents a new and effective way of doing this.
We want to create a stronger connection between the citizens and the EU especially after the low turnout recorded in the last European elections of May 2014. The ultimate goal of our project is to produce an online platform where players from across the Union compete and share their views on what the EU should be like.
A year from now we will have put in place an amazing role-playing game that will have changed the way in which its users feel about the EU and its work. Our project will have a successful outcome if the game will be played by citizens from all the EU member states. We want people to learn about the EU in a practical and fun way. We want to increase the understanding among citizens of the role and activities of the European Parliament and of how its decisions affect their daily lives. Moreover, through the game, we want to encourage citizens to participate in the democratic processes at EU level by showing how ideas for policies can be put into practice. Also, the (young) citizens will feel empowered to become civically and politically active in real life.
Stage 1, Jun. 2015 to Oct. 2015, will be dedicated to the detailed conceptualization of the game. At this stage we will collect ideas and feedback from a range of actors, such as game experts and users. We will contract the needed skills and work.
Stage 2, Nov 2015-May 2016, will be dedicated to the technical development of the game and the creation of the content. At the same, we will contact potential dissemination partners.
Stage 3, June-Nov. 2016, will consist in the dissemination campaign. This will take place through social media and in collaboration with national NGOs and education centers. We would also like to involve other sectors which are not directly linked to policy fields in the dissemination process so as to broaden as much as possible the potential players/citizens
