Unfortunately, many people are tired of Europe. The „European idea" is suspect or just abstract. There is this „crisis“ and frustration. Many extremist movements are arising, which are based on exclusion, fear. There are dividing movements and energies. People often want to return to former political and financial systems. There is a loss of perspective and hope - and of simplicty. Some star system buries individual expression and identity. .. As far as we are concerned we would like to discover and to offer something else - something that has to do with the individual and his creativity, with diversity (culture/language/geography/history), the respect of the difference and the cooperation between entities to achieve a common purpose - in our case: a story about wheels and wor(l)ds.
The whole project is about desire: to move, to love, to be (and stay) open to the other in order to discover the other, to immerse oneself in another language – or to rediscover one’s own language and culture. The French-German aspect is but an example. We would like to underline the co-existence of languages and cultures in a diverse Europe – and valorise each participant, each town, each reagion, each language. The bicycle being a focal part of the project, putting the wheels in motion and connecting one town to another, one region to another, one language to another. It is an invitation to move together with the artists (or later on), to stay active despite difficulties, to help improving our means of transport using a clean, ecological way of traveling, to stay creative and curious.
The artists will leave Berlin on the 30th of August 2015, on day after their performance, hopefully accompanied by other bicycle riders, that are maybe going to follow the journey on the blog, or even interacting through social medias with other participants later on. The artists will travel from town to town, performing their play and offering the workshops for free. This requests a huge organization. Besides, the very journey has to be documented on a blog. We wish to combine the virtual „being there“ through social media (texts, photos, hangouts, interviews etc.) and the real physical aspect and effort. All this aims at creating connections and uniting people around one project. The exhibition of the drawings at the end of journey has to be organized and realized, too.
