Idea pitch

Do you know that: The EU is going to ban snowmen!? Angela Merkel is the daughter of Adolf Hitler!? In Ukraine, the Nazis live, and Poland unleashed the Second World War!?
Disinformation manipulates citizens and poses a threat to sovereignty, democracy and democratic decision making. We will create a fake and show its impact on different groups of communities in several countries. And we will make a film about it so that you do not become a victim of disinformation!

Where will your idea take place?

Lviv, Ukraine; Lublin, Poland; EU countries

Why does Europe need your idea?

European council president Donald Tusk, warned that one of Europe’s real problems was “cyber-attacks, fake news, hybrid war”. Our project will create an instrument of interaction using a European network of journalists and activists who will teach citizens to see lies that might undermine democracy.

What is your impact?

The project is designed for a wide audience. The film will become a practical tool for journalists, community activists and local communities. The multimedia format of the project assumes its successful and long existence: participation in trainings, screenings at film festivals and on television.

How do you get there?

We will create in the VR format two fake stories in Lublin and Lviv and show them to the community representatives in these countries. After that, we'll show how we created the fake and record their reaction to the video before and after. This will be two TV programs for Poland and Ukraine in the format of live broadcast and discussion. The film based on these materials, we will show at film festivals in Poland and Ukraine, Europe and on the Internet - VR or standart formats.

What is your story?

As a cinema director and journalist, I have been studying the problems of the media for many years: freedom of speech, rights of journalists, ethical standards of media. The fight against disinformation is also part of the strategy of the Independent Media Trade Union of Ukraine.

Who are you doing it for?

Civil activists and representatives of local communities, mass media employees and human rights defenders of Ukraine and Poland, as well as members and partner organizations of the European Federation of Journalists.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

Counseling on organizing communication between community representatives and activists and media in different countries are important to us. We will also be grateful for any help based on the experience of other program participants.
