Transition of coal regions is a big issue in Europe. The project connects affected people and shows successful experiences of participating and being heard, if it comes to transition processes and future visions. That might create a virus effect for citizens of other mono-industrial regions.
Publicly presented audio-visual productions show concerns, ideas, visions of local communities and lead to public discussions of possible development paths of coal regions. New democratic tools will be implemented that involve citizens and their visions and advises for a future regional development.
30 participants (P) in every region:
- take part in a hackathon-workshop. Topics: reflecting just transition processes, future visions and develop unusual methods for citizens’ participation in decision making processes.
- launch local media campaign “Beyond coal”
P take part in a joint study trip to the Ruhr region: international exchange
P present an innovative democratic tool to their communities and implement it in a pilot version
P present the project results on the COP in Katowice
Everyone in our team is connected to coal regions personally and/or professionally. We believe that for democratic, socially, economically and energetically sustainable Europe we need to rethink the decision making process in coal regions
In general, active citizens in the coal mining regions, especially young people are in the center of the project.
More precisely, key groups from different sectors that can make a change: representatives of business, civil society, politics, media and education.
I am glad for any feedback on the described project idea
