Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

Jerusalem encounter helps selected european youth to reflect about the Judaeo-Christian western roots and Muslim culture, favouring a deep debate about western civilization and current need of democratic values in the EU. Jerusalem, a place radically based on need of comprehension, tolerance and mutual understanding as base for the democracy we want to bolster and construct in Europe. Methodology is based in academic seminars, cultural visits and a final pragmatic and democratic common review.

Where will your idea take place?

City of Jerusalem, in the Middle East. Both Israelis and Palestinians claim Jerusalem as capital.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Jerusalem Intercultural Encounter focuses on three needed work points to leverage democracy’s health in Europe: Awareness of hate speech, equilibrium in cultural diversity and peace awareness in Middle East, considering how much it influences Europe politically. To boost change-makers and thinkers.

What is your impact?

The Encounter looks for a concrete outcome in a group of diversified European young students. A final review based on the intense experiences and reflections, easily releasable, and mainly claiming for the excitement of the Europe we have and in which we have to deepen: secure, free and democratic.

How do you get there?

The encounter is a rights and democracy intense hub located on the perfect environment for reflecting and for having political meals and discussions about the sense of democracy, the need to valuate Europe from the outside, and the equilibrium we need to continue having for reinforcing the European idea. We have chosen Jerusalem as for being a historic confluence of diverse cultures, aims and conflicts looking for peace and democratic processes, nothing different to what we seek in Europe.

What is your story?

One idea is shaping the project: the need of considering our roots for exploring our identity, and we must do that about our European idea, with a higher impact in ourselves and our EU if the environment talks about origins too: that’s why we chose Jerusalem, for having an integral reflection.

Who are you doing it for?

A claim for the future of EU, represented by young European students with concern and potential of talking about the European idea, its benefits, opportunities, threats... is at the centre of the project. The youth is the future the key actors in Europe, being catalysts in their environments.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?
