Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

How would you introduce your home city to others? What are your local problems, solutions, culture and practices worth sharing? We wish to examine these questions through citizen journalism. 10 two-member teams from 10 cities across Europe will be invited to a joint workshop, where they can exchange ideas and acquire basic journalistic and technical training, in order to produce an online platform with podcasts about the daily lives, cultural, political and community engagements in their cities.

Where will your idea take place?

10 European cities, lesser known ones or the cities of "new Europe" or European cities outside EU.

Why does Europe need your idea?

How much do we really know about each other? The "growing national egos and fences" manipulate this unfamiliar space of "us" vs "them". Through direct participation of citizen-journalists, we can combat this prejudice and discover the issues that all our different faces actually have in common.

What is your impact?

In addition to starting a new network between the cities and expanding it in the future, the podcast platform is meant to present and exchange successful examples of community improvement and cultural engagement, which can have an impact on other cities and "listeners" and inspire positive change.

How do you get there?

- Establishing partnerships with local organizations in 10 cities
- Creating an online platform for the initial series of podcasts, that can continue to expand in the future with contributions from new members
- Select citizen journalists in each of the cities through an open call (non professionals)
- Joint exchange and training workshop
- Establishing an editing board that will develop the subjects with the participants
- Producing the podcasts
- Dissemination and promotion of podcasts

What is your story?

For long, Belgrade was a closed city, at the edge of Europe, on the path of migrants searching for peace and security. For us living here, each guest was a chance to learn about other cultures, hear different opinions. This inspired us to create an online crossroads where unlikely paths could meet.

Who are you doing it for?

European citizens who will get the chance to share their ideas and initiate changes in society, but also to learn about other cities and hear experiences, as journalists or listeners.
Also local stakeholders such as municipalities and neighborhoods willing to present and implement good praxis.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We are eager to hear suggestions on the topics that we can discuss and things people would like to hear or present when talking about their cities! What are you most interested to hear? Organisations and individuals willing to join us, please, contact us, so we can do this together!
