We are creating a platform empowering civil society to form its own response to the refugee crisis in Europe with innovative solutions providing dignified and empowering conditions for refugees.
As formal actors struggle to respond to the refugee crisis, civil society initiatives are filling the gaps and providing crucial services to refugees.
Our aim is to make civil society initiatives more effective, collaborative and sustainable, all while connecting them to new resources and expertise.
Our activities are taking place across Greece, specifically in Athens, Northern Greece and Lesvos.
Our project will:
- Strengthen civil society initiatives and their role in refugee response
- Connect initiatives from different fields and countries
- Be easily scalable and replicable across Europe
- Stand by the democratic European values of dignity, fairness and humanity
The project aims to support the growth of models of aid focused on dignity and effectiveness across Europe. In a year from now, we hope to have mapped initiatives from other countries and expanded to a second country to test how we can increase the capacity of civil society teams beyond Greece.
We identify real challenges directly from the ground and have developed a database to register and respond to them. It also allows us to measure our impact on our network and the refugees that benefit from it.
We have spent the past year developing programs for civil society initiatives, while helping the teams collaborate. We now want to increase our ability to give access to resources that will grow our initiatives’ capacity to provide effective services to thousands of refugees.
Since 2015, I have volunteered in refugee response in Greece. I was blown away by the creativity and effectiveness of civil society projects. Noticing there was a need for them to be supported to develop further, I leveraged skills from social entrepreneurship to create Campfire Innovation.
We offer support to civil society initiatives:
- Small non-profits
- Volunteer teams
- Refugee-led groups
Moreover, we help them provide services to thousands of refugees and asylum seekers.
We welcome all advice and feedback from the Advocate Europe Community! We are looking forward reading your comments to help us improve our project. We are also interested to hear from other organisations doing similar work.
