Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

Since the beginning of the refugee crisis the xenophobia and especially islamophobia is on the rise in the European society due to nationalistic propaganda and fake news. To bridge this gap, to counter nationalistic propaganda and to help the people understand the harsh conditions that the refugees are facing, we want to create “Hotel Europa”. The “hotel” is an opportunity for Europeans to live in refugee camps and to have a first-hand experience of what it actually means to be displaced.

Where will your idea take place?

Our project will be implemented throughout Europe’s refugee camps.

Why does Europe need your idea?

We believe that by facilitating the opportunity to be in direct contact with the people affected by war will enable them to change preconceptions towards refugees and it will spread that knowledge in an horizontal and from down to top manner, neutralising in this way the xenophobic discourse.

What is your impact?

Our project will humanise the plight of displaced people, will enable dialogue between local population and refugees and it will draw back the attention of the media on the issue. On the long term, our project will undermine the political support for extremist and far-right political parties.

How do you get there?

The first step is to get permission to offer accommodation in refugee camps.
Then we will create a platform where people can book accommodation in the camps.
We will promote the platform and we we will encourage journalists, influencers, artists and politicians on local and European level to take part in the project.
We will collect testimonials from those who took part in the project and we will encourage them to share their experience.

What is your story?

The lack of understanding of the refugee crisis created fear, a fear which made people to become more xenophobic and enabled the extremists to gain more and more power. We want to fight this fear because it undermines democracy and turns people against other people.

Who are you doing it for?

Civil society, citizens in general and political representatives on a local and European level.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We are looking for any advice, comments and feedback regarding on how we can improve our project.
