Home of Democracy is an online tool for civic education intended for young people from Bulgaria, R. of Macedonia,Albania. Configured as a game, participants will enter and solve cases in 3 different simulation Rooms -1.local council, 2.court jury deciding on human rights case, 3. National Parliament, and will be tested on basic human rights. Finally, 10 people from each country will be randomly selected to participate in a hackathon in Bulgaria on the European future of the Western Balkans.
Online, with participants from Bulgaria, R. of Macedonia, Albania. The hackathon will be in Bulgaria.
This is an effort to raise youth knowledge of democracy and participation in an appealing way off and online, and to bridge 3 countries with challenging relations, 1 EU member state and 2 neighboring Western Balkan candidates, by focusing on their common future based on shared democratic values.
The lack of civic education in the education systems of the 3 countries will be narrowed using modern gamification tools. Stressing on the merits of democracy and on the European future of youth, the action will change negative perceptions among neighboring countries and boost civic activism.
HoD will be created as an accessible interactive online tool for civic education. In order to equip the Rooms, we will develop case scenarios that require practical solutions pertaining to local governance, human rights, and participation in decision-making at the national level, as well as an interactive test on human rights. Collaborating with partners in Albania and the Republic of Macedonia, the tool will be advertised among the targeted audience.
We are NGO with a network of 1000 alumni that trains the political and civic leaders of Bulgaria since 2003 and we aim to strengthen the process of democratization in Bulgaria, the Western Balkans, the Black Sea region and the South Mediterranean through our programs, using cutting-edge approaches.
The targeted group will be young people from Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia, and Albania up to 30 years of age.
Comments/feedback on expanding the online games to a wider audience in other countries; potential partners for a pan-EU hackathon are also welcome.
