Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

The main challenge of the project is how to overcome making of policies and politics about minorities without them. With project Get power we will empower ‘invisible’ women with a migrant background (esp.from South Balkans) who are living in Slovenia to take the stage. We will explore their needs and goals, develop a programme for empowerment and finally sit them behind the table where the policies (about them) are decided, projects (for them) are developed and decisions are made.

Where will your idea take place?

Slovenia, Gorenjska region with the focus on two towns: Jesenice and Škofja Loka.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Our idea will strengthen democracy in Europe by empowering women with a migrant background to take the stage. Projects are proposed, policies in Slovenia are written often with unsuccessful implementation. We would like to change that: how they can contribute to their new communities, to the society

What is your impact?

A small group of women who are developing their own ideas to contribute to the communities and demanding their voices to be heard. They are also empowered by knowledge and skills on how the procedures in politics (on a local level,in schooling and employment) are designed and how decisions are taken

How do you get there?

Knowledge foundation is our experience from working with women with migrant background and asylum seekers. We will take grass root approach using unique inclusive engagement model developed by Pomegranate centre. First, we will explore the needs of women (and communities) and then establish aims and goals of the empowerment. Our idea is to implement the plan by participatory workshops which will result in developing small community projects and inviting stakeholders on the go.

What is your story?

Because I would like to change the system to a better working one. I would also like to see that the money which is spent for the minorities comes into their hands. I would like to see that government projects are based on the needs of beneficiaries. And because I personally care.

Who are you doing it for?

The target group are women with a migrant background. Stakeholders in the project are NGOs municipality, the ministry of education, the ministry of social affairs. Beneficiaries are communities and the locals. Audiences are general public of Slovenia and EU.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

It would be great to get a feedback about the idea from the community.
