The association "Resources Center for Social Inclusion CRIS"
We are the most resilient group in Europe. No other community has started where we did, survived what we did and still thrives as we do. If we can organize our voters, we can begin to make changes in schools, in the workplace, in medical centers and on the streets of Prahova County. We must act now.
We want to demonstrate that Roma can succeed on their own terms. The fact that Roma can succeed independently means that they are ignored by Roma experts, researchers, and the media. The majority of them are not miserable or poverty-stricken, so no one is taking photos or analyzing the causes of their failure or sending aid. In short, these Roma don’t fit the stereotype. The way forward is to spread the word amongst the Roma of Europe about how our organized vote can bring positive changes in the lives of people. It is leadership at the local level that is the key to Roma success. The leaders we produce must be grounded in the values of justice, accountability. They must be committed to the public good, not to private gain. Leaders do not spring up overnight, they must be nurtured.
If my idea will be selected than the Roma in 20 communities in Romania, will have the possibility to participate in free elections and to vote for their own Roma representatives for the Mayor of councilors seats. Having political representation, they will have the chance to benefit from water pipe system, heating network, paved streets, lit on the streets, renovated schools, etc., and the Roma will have the pride and self confidence to say" I was a one of the game changers, I was a part of this community change. Now I know that my power is my vote"
- Identifying leaders and putting the base for creating local community coalitions in the 20 Roma settlements
- Trainings with at least 100 Roma leaders and young Roma (men and women), from the 20 communities focused on providing information and skills necessary to participate in a democratic decision making electoral process
-Organizing 2 preparation meetings with local communities representatives to chose the Roma candidates for the elections in June 2016, in each of the 20 communities
- Organizing the public hearing in each one of the 20 Roma communities, with the participation of the mayor and local councilors seats candidates.
Conducting 20 simulations of the electoral process, showing the Roma the ballot, the position and the electoral sign of the Roma candidates.
Funding requested from Advocate Europe
I would like to know if my idea was ever implemented in any region of the world, regarding minority groups, and if yes, how was it implemented and what results did it have.
