motschnik is a transnational performing arts organisation for young audiences, consisting of artists from AT, BE, DK, UK, HU and BIH. In each country we have a strong network.
The way to a person's heart is through the stomach. This is a delivery service where you don't only get to know new flavours from Afghanistan, Irak, Syria, Somalia and Iran, but also the chefs themselves. At your home they share their food and their stories in little performative scenes. Ideally they trigger talks and intercultural exchange. And maybe also friendships. Cause the world is full of fantastic recipes and interesting stories. And people that should meet.

Our dinner table situations, where food from countries the majority of refugees in our partner cities come from, is shared, will give the chance to connect people, that would hardly meet otherwise. Personal performative acts of life in e.g. AFG shall be starting points for conversations.
Through our performance workshops refugees have gained a new self esteem. They have discovered that their story and voice is of importance. Through the dinners strangers have met and gained new ideas of other people's opinions and history. This has raised new awareness, understanding and empathy.
We connect food to performing arts. Chefs from conflict areas get workshops in acting, dancing + voice, as they will not only deliver food people can order like in regular delivery services, but also be guests + masters of ceremony. With some décor and tech they will turn their hosts’ living rooms into intimate theatre spaces. In little acts they give insight into their (former) lives, thoughts and feelings. Like this we want to pave the way for talks and personal exchange with the unknown.
We want to fight agitation against foreigners. We thought of an easy and tempting way for people to meet. Food is such a way. By having a connection to an individual your preconceptions of a "mass" can change. By sharing personal stories and seeing the individual you open up room to the unknown.
We do it for all citizens in the places we perform and cook for. People of all ages can order at our delivery, families as well as singles. By saying all citizens we of course also mean the newcomers. They offer their food to people curious to taste it and meet them.
We would be interested to see if our idea comes across clearly. Of course we are open for further feedback.
