A frequently asked question reveals the most common lacks in understanding a system: FAQ EU aims to raise these questions in an understandable language via an audiovisual news coverage to provide citizens with the one precondition necessary to form a durable opinion - a basic understanding of the EU
FAQ EU wants to take the most fundamental value of European democracy into account: demos, the people. We are convinced that political education and the addressing of our audience as Europeans are important preconditions to strengthen the understanding of the importance of EU politics and the development of a European identity. Our target group in mind, we identified a strong need for change regarding the methods of broadcasting in terms of style and language. In line with the purpose of ensuring a broader and more comprehensive understanding of the EU, as well as a perception of citizens as part of a European society, translations to more languages would be a desirable evolution.
We want to raise the democratic control through a higher comprehensive attention by average people and not by experts. Further we want to raise the freedom of expression and opinion making not only through access to information but also through understanding these information, which hopefully will lead to more participation in decision-making. These are essential keystones of civil rights and can only be ensured when we understand the processes of decision-making, the possibilities to involve and the need to engage as a European society. Beneficiaries will hopefully conclude, that they experienced a deepening of knowledge about the European Union in an innovative, inclusive and demonstrative manner and understood the impact of EU politics on our everyday life and fundamental freedoms.
FAQ EU is divided in 2 phases (2 months of preproduction and 6 months of production and release) and each episode will treat frequently asked questions concerning one (changing) topic, by giving voice to activists, lobbyists, artists, academics, citizens and politicians. Combined with the explanatory parts, this will assure a varied broadcasting. The exact topic of each episode will be determined 2 weeks in advance, because it is important to us to react on current developments. Furthermore, we offer the opportunity to our audience to submit questions and ideas for upcoming episodes, so they become an active part of the project. Due to our work experience in Brussels we have diverse networks ensuring a feasible production.
