Idea pitch

Across Europe there are initiatives, organizations and people with ideas for improving the democratic development of Europe. We want to stimulate a European-wide culture of participation by bringing people together in public Dome-Talks and create an open space for discussions in all of Europe - wherever people are in their lives or professions, in city centres and public squares. We want to discuss ideas, learn about new approaches and make the results visible to all in a European Public Sphere.

Where will your idea take place?

All across Europe, with an initial (2018/19) focus on Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Democracy is strengthened by showing that people themselves and their ideas shape Europe. Every unique individual is important to our European democracy, but a democracy so large requires real space for deliberation. People of all backgrounds are invited here to reflect on the future of Europe.

What is your impact?

The results of the discussions will make up a catalogue of ideas for developing Europe. This index will be interactive and openly available for people to consult and add their own ideas to.
This catalogue should be taken to a democratic Convention for a renewal of the EU. (Art. 48 Lisbon treaty)

How do you get there?

Europe needs new approaches to be more democratic, transparent, social and sustainable. By encouraging open debate between people, initiatives and organizations from across Europe, we aim to develop a new format to connect conversations in the real world with the need to make them available to the wider public. Over time, the dome would become a symbol of welcome and open discussion. The conversations are documented and evaluated on the public online platform.

What is your story?

Democracy International is committed to the further development of democratic instruments at all political levels. We aim to involve citizens more closely and directly in the political community and decision-making processes. We believe that only together can we shape the future of Europe.

Who are you doing it for?

The project is for civil society activists with initiatives, organizations and citizens who want to develop the idea of Europe together. We welcome citizens who have lost confidence in Europe and citizens who wish to share their story or views on Europe.
