Idea Sketch

Idea pitch

Main challenge: Many Europeans don’t understand EU politics, which leads to low turnout in EP elections.
Objective: Our EUROMAT makes political positions tangible & provides an information platform.
Target group: Interested EU citizens-we create a European tool for all EUROPEANS!
Method: EUROMAT allows voters & citizens to compare their own political views to those of political groups running for the elections in 2019. It stimulates interest in European politics & increases election turnout.

Where will your idea take place?

Online-reaching citizens across EU via website, twitter, fb, media/offline-promoted in > 100 cities

Why does Europe need your idea?

EUROMAT promotes European citizenship, informs about EP elections, provides transparency on positions of contesting political groups & thus increases voter turnout. It will be the first pan-European vote-match tool, helping to create a European public sphere. We want to improve European democracy!

What is your impact?

A sustainably-running, non-profit, non-partisan service for the interested public, politicians & European journalists followed by more citizen engagement and higher turnout in the EP elections. In one year, the EUROMAT will be accessible across the EU in all national languages.

How do you get there?

We build on our experience with the German elections 2017
Project schedule:
1. Formulate EU policy statements
2. Political groups running for EP elections answer the statements
3. Create online election tool
4. Add news, glossary and information about citizen engagement projects to website
5. Develop media outreach channels
6. Increase interest in the 2019 elections & turnout
Polis180 & Pulse of Europe combine a network of 100 cities in Europe & reach>150.000 followers on fb & Twitter

What is your story?

We are concerned about political disengagement in Europe. Personal contacts have shown us that many EU citizens are not sufficiently informed. 2018 will be a decisive year for the EU. Will anti-EU forces gain ground in the EP? The time is now to promote democracy & mobilise citizens on-/offline.

Who are you doing it for?

With the electoral information tool, we target eligible voters in the EU and link organisations to facilitate citizen engagement. The integrated information hub moreover targets the interested public, politicians and European journalists by providing high quality information on European policy.

What do you need from the Advocate Europe community?

We need advice regarding:Additional political & media contacts + how2 promote the project in the European media How2 create publicity and raise visibility How2 implement a pan-European transnational project How2 engage with politicians effectively Feedback on EUROMAT prototype and website design
