Idea pitch

Europe is often regarded as the Promised Land by countries aspiring to become a part of it. Little has been done to portray Europe as a union from which much could be learned and to which even more could be contributed. This initiative will fill this gap in knowledge exchange.

Where will your idea take place?

Prishtina, Kosovo

Why does Europe need your idea?

Kosove has a very active EU presence but communication between the community and EU experts is missing, with both sides being completely unaware of each other’s work/needs. Consequently, this project can provide EU structures with information regarding the needs of the community. Secondly, this project will be a good opportunity for people to understand where Europe stands on several issues. The 2014/2015 illegal migration euphoria of Kosovars is mostly attributed to false information regarding migration policies in Europe. In January 2015, 11383 Kosovars migrated to Germany, this wave of migrations is simply a disaster for the small country. This project will be an excellent opportunity for people to become aware of misrepresentations and misunderstandings regarding Europe.

What is your impact?

The aim of the project is to a closer look at how the civil society and institutions in Kosove are addressing the 12 most pressing issues of the population. It is our goal to provide people with more information of what is being done to improve their lives as well as what EU countries have done to tackle the same issues. By becoming aware of what is happening and what other options are out there we hope to trigger change in the community. The knowledge of what we are doing well and what we may need to change provides for an excellent beginning. To the best of our knowledge, no such initiative has ever been implemented in Kosove or the Balkan region.

How do you get there?

• A website will be developed to address the needs of this project.
• Every month we will discuss a specific issue with national and international experts, policy builders and the public. The fact that Kosovo has a rather large international presence will provide us with an invaluable input in terms of international expertise.
• Every dialogue will begin by giving an overview of the matter, followed by a discussion of what is currently being done in Kosovo and how other countries have addressed the issue.
• Every discussion session will be recorded and uploaded to the website.
• Finally, a booklet including best practices in Kosovo will be composed and made available online.
