Analyse & Tal
Research has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of basic knowledge of European policy-making and how it relates to national policy-making in the Danish population. This, we believe, can in part be explained by a lack of easily accessible information and insights.
Our goal is to inform and engage the Danish public - especially young people - by creating a digital platform that provides insights into the interplay between Danish and European policy-making by analyzing open data.
A vibrant democracy requires well-informed and engaged electorates. A lack of easily-accessible information is a great obstacle to this. Therefore, a core focus of our platform will be to make user-friendly insights that are relevant to people everyday lives.
A year from now, our platform will be used to educate and engage Danish high school students, and the general public, about the interplay between Danish and European policy-making and what it means for their everyday lives. Thus, empowering them to become more active participants in EU politics.
The idea is to build an online platform that provides data-driven insights into both Danish and European policy-making as well as the interplay between them. To this end we will use open data from the Danish end European parliament, including voting data, speeches, official documents and legal texts. We will incorporate the data in a larger visualized structure and create high-quality interactive data visualizations that engages, activates and enlightens the users.
As a democratic organisation, our mission is to promote a vibrant democratic society. We strongly believe that we can contribute towards this goal by making knowledge on democratic processes more accessible through the combination of social science and innovative use of technology and big data.
The platform will be built with high school students in mind, and we're working together with teachers to make it useful in their teaching. Journalists and the general public are secondary target groups.
The platform will be open-source and easy to adopt and implement in another EU-country.
