Idea pitch

The project aims to raise awareness on environmental issues, to promote the systematic recycling by the communities of refugees and migrants and to educate them on the benefits of solar energy. It will make use of used paper, old batteries and plastic bottles as well as other plastics that will not be re-used. The overall goal is to promote behavioral change and community engagement.

Where does your idea take place?

Athens, Greece

Why does Europe need your idea?

The idea is to create a project to reduce the social exclusion experienced by refugees and migrants through awareness raising on recycling and the environment, as it is a matter that concerns the quality of life of all of us regardless of origin and beliefs.

What is your impact?

The goal of the activities is to make a significant contribution to environmental awareness of the beneficiaries, promote behavioral change and volunteering, and engage the whole community. The project wishes that participants will then create a social cooperative making use of the recycled objects.

How do you get there?

1. Organize awareness raising workshops
2. Create special audiovisual material for awareness-raising and environmental education in various languages (e.g. Arabic, farsi, dari, etc.) that can also be used in other European countries.
3. Organize trainings in innovative machines and plastic recycling processes
4. Support and promote "green entrepreneurship"

What is your story?

As both SolidarityNow and Almasar work in the field of integration we came up with the idea of creating a project to reduce social exclusion through environmental activities and educational workshops.

Who are you doing it for?

The target group is refugees, migrants and the local community.
