Changing society through changing education: promoting sustainability studies and active citizenship in ’Kauno Kolegija’/University of Applied Sciences by facilitating teacher competence development based on multi-sectoral and international partnerships.
The project seeks for synergy in implementing of two European strategic trends: ‘Europe – 2020’, the EU strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth, and European Commission’s communication ‘Rethinking education’ (2012) aimed at development of key competences within education and training systems
Contemporary requirements put TVET in important position in the development of competences that are critical in empowering youth for transforming labor markets as well as for social change. Well trained teachers are critical for implementing policy guidelines into educational practices.
Project experience in promoting creativity and entrepreneurship as well as solving developmental problems at local level will be important for TVET systems in all Member States. European network of RCEs.
Project shall be implemented in the ‘Kauno Kolegija’/University of Applied Sciences (KK). In a long-term perspective, the project aims to strengthen capacity of the Competence Development Centre at the KK in order to provide consultancy and trainings for TVET teachers on integrating sustainability issues into curriculum.
During the period of one year, it is expected: 1) training of 30-35 teachers at the KK how to integrate sustainability issues into different study fields as well as adjustment of their specific modules according to SD and ESD criteria in assistance of experts; 2) selected SD themes piloted with the students of the KK; 3) established team of 5-7 mentors from from the staff of the KK and compiled database SD/ESD consultants within RCE Lithuania.
• Training of teachers on SD strategies and related trans-disciplinary topics ( and ESD methods for competence development
• Definition of specific learning outcomes for different professional study fields by multi-stakeholder consultations and involving European RCEs.
• Adjustment of specific study modules at the KK according to SD and ESD criteria through tutorials by external experts.
• Piloting and of selected modules with the students of the KK and analysis of their performance.
• Presentation of the project results to representatives of Lithuanian universities and professional schools to initiate debate on the competences of TVET teachers
