Debate Academy in Cyprus would gather participants from whole Europe, with emphasis on Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and Balkans. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from best trainers in the world, developing their argumentation, public speaking and critical thinking skills.
We all strive for educated, active and tolerant Europe, and in divided island like Cyprus, where we still have UN buffer zone, we believe it is more than needed. Debate is also one of the rare activities that makes students and professors constantly working on themselves in order to get better - it requires not only to coherently express your knowledge though arguments, but also to become an active listener. In conflicts in general that's always missing, and it makes people understand, comprehend the "other side" and thus be more tolerant. EU needs Cyprus as an island of the verge, to represent it's values by all means. Students in Cyprus also need to be a part of European students family in all aspects including prestigious academic discipline such as debating, same goes for professors.
Overall objectives are:
-to establish a functional student debate club in Cyprus;
-to educate and motivate professors to use debate methods in classrooms.
-connect and ignite collaboration of students from Cyprus with their peers from Europe.
We would aim to spark interest fro debating among our students, by bringing them top-class trainers, and allowing them to see what it means to build and bring case on any of the relevant local or international problems, for any of the sides, and to inspire them to develop themselves by getting both skills and knowledge to be able to do such thing. Getting media attention at opening of such international event would also give us ability to reach general public, and raise awareness and support of Universities.
-Organization of Debate Academy is the first step; it provides the basis of development: providing knowledge and networking opportunity, it raises awareness, interest, and provides basis for self-sustainability;
-At a beginning of new academic year, public debates are organized to present program and get new members; with this, work done has spill-over effect;
-Second Academy provides international training and experience for new members, and also advanced training for the ones that were attending the first one - giving them a development needed just in time to prepare themselves for WUDC taking place in Thessaloniki this year (close, and therefore accessible) - timing and two academies should be cornerstones for self-sustainability of university debate in Cyprus.

Idea for the future - we would love to see life changing testimonials we've heard from trainers and participants we've encountered in Belgrade, and also to see our students opening those doors to their younger colleagues.
