Idea pitch

For 100 years train tracks have defined European development, connecting cities, regions and the people. Invited creatives, decision makers, media representatives and accidental passengers join us on the Creative Express in an epic train hackathon exploring European creative industries potential.

Where will your idea take place?

Rijeka, Croatia, Maribor, Slovenia, Dortmund, Germany

Why does Europe need your idea?

1-We explore common vision for Europe's future development. Creative industries are a hidden potential that for years has remained under-exploited.
2-We address legacy networks that are part of our common history and the role they play in European narrative. Railway network is a perfect example of such legacy. With Creative Express we re-evaluate common foundations and origins of European experience.
3-The principles of participation and collaborative work are new forms of sustainable governance and new tools for flexible and dynamic workforce. It is important to show that our strength lies in our communities and in our ability to work creatively in cooperation. These are the basic principles of our hackathon events where we actively promote such work-practices.

What is your impact?

1-Putting creative industries in the focus as a driving force for the New Europe, addressing the problem of youth unemployment and the common future vision. We are enthusiastic about promoting this idea.
2-We would like to confirm, that European project is a common experience with common problems and common solutions, including opinions of a diverse group of people, from creatives to decision makers.
3-Diversity and participation. Coming and leaving, entering space and experiencing new and different things in meetings, talking and working with people.
4-Unique and relevant experience, a documentary about an event, that is unique in its content and unique in applied work method. We would like to insure long term relevance of the project trough creative and dynamic participatory approach.

How do you get there?

We are adopting the hackathon methodology with condensed space and time to encourage participatory cooperation.
The project consists of 5 parts: (1) kick-off meeting with international participating organisations and individuals, preparation and analytic phase, (2) the participatory workshops, presentations and lectures on the train trip - Creative Express, (3) two day conference on Creative industries in Europe in Dortmund, (4) return trip with organised train meetings with local media representatives, talking about importance of creative industries for local economies and regions, (5) publishing the results, launching a short documentary movie, launching a web site
