Overloaded with media bias and sensationalism, in region that still strives towards reconciliation, we feel we need to learn our youth how to read "through" headlines, and not to fall for narrative placed and promoted by interest groups.
Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Hercegovina
From UK to Hungary, no country escaped the rise of right-wing parties and popular demagogy - take a look at UKIP or Golden Dawn, or Jobbik. On Balkans, having in mind context provided earlier - it's even worse - HDZ getting back to power in Croatia, in Serbia already we have absolute domination of SNS - ex radical party which mostly were supporters or close coworkers of Seselj; in BiH recently parliament of Republika Srpska said that they will bring the resolution of independence. This is no accident - after economical crisis hit the world in 2008, repercussions on politics were same as always though history. Educational systems are obsolete, and reforming them will take its time; meanwhile we've decided to try to equip youth with practical skills that can change the way they behave.
We would have 150 students passed our program and that will be able to spread their knowledge. Through meeting their peers from the region they will break stereotypes learned, and hopefully start new initiatives and collaborations. We hope that our participants will be able to tell us they've managed to change the way news and politician's statements are discussed within their families, among their friends. We are aiming to provide them with skills that are used on daily bases, in everyday communication - they do affect the way discussions go, the way perception is created and narratives are shaped.
- 2 academies that would be foundation of our pool of participants and people that will at the end of the project be invited to Training of trainers - so 3 events that would constitute future spreading to include more countries. We can continue to spread around the region- 2nd cycle we include countries like Hungary, Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey - some of them are members of EU already, rest of them strive to become - nevertheless in Hungary for example, we can see the media control by Orban's party is taking it's fee, and consequences are devastating, especially for minorities.
We would organize 2 academies, 1 in Serbia, 1 in Croatia - with 10 trainers each - and we'd bring students from Bosnia and Hercegovina though debate clubs Open Communication helped establishing.

We'd like to receive the letters of interests from people or organizations who would like to become part of our project - and also to hear any comments about how we should advance our program.
