Idea pitch

Open participatory gallery focused on analyzing various grass-rooted communities of urbanites and artists embedded in city context who are dynamically developing and taking part in urban life.

Why does Europe need your idea?

Alternative culture has less support in Russia in the aftermath of the financial crisis, as well as due to the consolidation of funds to support the official cultural policy. Many initiatives are separated from the support of int. NGOs, while local NGOs tend to stop their activities, or are forced to demonstrate their loyalty to the official cultural politics: to raise patriotic, traditional values and limit pluralism of artistic expression. These processes, being essentially a politically regulated affect the activities of non-political art and research initiatives, resulting in the decrease of the dynamics of projects carried out by independent collectives, which tend to go “underground”, and supported by its own contributions. The maintenance of int. art exchange becomes unbearable.

What is your impact?

The aim of the project "CPS" is the analysis of the current state of the infrastructure of the area, identifying the main factors that slow down its development, and the creation of art concepts form a comfortable urban environment in the Obvodny Canal with their subsequent implementation in the form of a permanent installation, illustrating the research process and visualize the possible ways create new conditions of life of the district. In the long term, the project aims to create a positive image of the area and to stimulate interest for its development. The economic growth of the city is inseparable from its creative potential realization, which can be expressed in the way of social and cultural adaptation of urban spaces of the Obvodny Canal district.

How do you get there?

The project includes four phases:

1) Research: mapping of infrastructure and communities, Space Syntax, walks, drawing mental maps, participatory art intervention in micro-ops
2) Painting. Participants under the leadership team invited artists create paintings gallery.
3) Installation. Finished painting is complemented by LED-stripes and adjusted their work to achieve the desired effect, "animated" graphic
4) Presentation. Lecture and discussion about research and creative stages of the project with the participation of experts in the field of urban studies, urban planning, sociology and media arts. After-party.
