European citizen need playgrounds related to every day life, where they can test out new ways of sharring, caring and learning from each other, where individual responsibility can be developed. Europe needs intergenerational learning environments and new communities based on practical essentials like caring for nature and food sharing.
The practical possibilities community gardening and CSA offers are extensiv, the inspiration is large, but the challenges are also immense. In order to let this young movement take off, professionalisation is needed.
We want to support a European movement with great potential for social innovations. Community gardening and CSA is a fast growing movement in Europe. In order to stabilise this trend, it urgently needs professional support. We want to help turn “Urban Community Gardens” and CSA projects into inter-generational and inter-cultural learning environments as change agents for social and economic innovations in Europe. On the basic level of primary production, civil society can learn to develop new social skills, enabling the transfer of social innovation into other sectors.
Based on many years of collecting data and gathering experiences with the challenges around community gardening and CSA, we want to offer an open source software. We will release the ICT tools with a public presentation tour for community gardens and CSA projects. Among others, we are planing workshops in the Ruhr area and in eastern Europe.
