Blue Drum - The Arts Specialist Support Agency
Kaunas, Lithuania, Dublin, Ireland, Rotterdam, Netherlands
The ‘shocks’ of austerity left many communities reeling.
Zygmunt Baumann observes a crisis of agency at the non structural level within communities; the sites of formation of social justice and solidarity. Our culture of impotence needs new potentialities to raise us up. By seeking to build traction through a carefully calibrated set of activities we seek to test and correlate in ways that can be translated and scaled-up. Can communities be architects of a new Europe? Can poorer communities deliver ‘public spaces’ for deliberations are activated to effect and convince a wider set of ordinary people immune to media and social lobbying? Can we developing a new consensus about Europe as a carrier of values of equality and human rights? We are not optimists but critical realists.
Lithuania, Ireland and the Netherlands join together so that we can be more than the sum of our parts. Our idea is about the
• DISCOVERY of a new vision for community culture where structures are in danger of collapsing and thus need to refresh, reset and renew itself as contributors to social change
• TESTING of new capabilities and associated skills and tools that equality and rights can bring to community culture
• CO-CREATION in the community as a new role for community mobilizing that can bring creativity to processes of socially responsible transformation.
• COOPERATION as a key value to underpin equality and rights work between a diverse set of stakeholders.
We target community activists and artists so as to build a legacy from the 'field' of community practices
